Subject:which rebbe? | |
Question: I'm a ba'al teshuva very attracted to chassidus, and attracted, in particular, to the Bobover (Halberstam) and Skver Rebbes. What pulls me is the niggunim, stories of Admorim, and the general culture. I feel like I'm missing a religious aspect in all of this even though singing these niggunim are for me kodosh. Should I aspire to become a chosid? Or just remain a guest for shabbos at different communities?
Answer: Connecting to Tzaddikim is very powerful. When you make a commitment to something, it strengthens you. You haven't fully appreciated and received the light from these Tzaddikim until you become one with them. |

Question: Are there any feuds between any chassidic dynasties?
Answer: There are occasionally since they get so large and sometimes this separation from disagreements creates a new dynasty. There are both positive and negatives. It is taught in chassidus that some disputes can save one sect from having divine judgment. If there is disputes here on earth, it may silence those in Heaven. |

Question: What is the difference between Chasidim and Hareidim?
Answer: Chassidim follow the traditions of the Baal Shem Tov & their current Rebbe. Charedim just means religious Jews. I personally don't like to define people in general terms. I think we are above this. |

Question: Why don't Lubavitch rabbis wear shtreimels or spodiks on shabbat or holidays?
Answer: In the old days they used too but I understood that the Rebbe saw his movement as one with acceptance and understanding of the times. Through this he would draw in more people then a dress of the older standards. So he chose a hat with the times. |

Subject:yeshivish vs chassidish
Question: What's the difference between yeshivish and chasidish?
Answer: Chassidism has been around since 1750, it was a movement to save judaism by bringing out the more spiritiual aspects of the Torah to the common man. Yeshivish is more of a style, not being chassidic but regular orthodox with strong ties to Torah learning |

Question: I am a lady and was wondering when I am suposed to go to uman.
Answer: women are not supposed to go for rosh hashanah, it is very unmodest to go as breslov isn't even setup to even handle the large amounts of men that come. There are women trips that go together a few times a year. www.breslov.com has info on this |

Question: Hello, As you can see, I am starting to go away from Chabad because I no longer believe in it anymore...in that in order to be mainstream Chabad you must believe in not only the Rebbe as Moshiach, but in his superior intellect and divinity as well. I am trying to convince other people in chabad to leave as well.
Answer: maybe we should talk about this, if you are going away... do it nicely without any bad thoughts to leave behind. Also, you can move forward unless u pick a new direction. There is also being chabad and following the bal hatanya as your main rebbe or you could try to change to another chabad group as I am sure there is much to offer in Lubavitch if you were originally taken by it. |

Subject:Breslov Concepts
Question: How does one start to be Breslov? Indeed how does one become anything? At what point can one call them self Breslov? What is the first few steps to be Breslov? If someone tells me they are Breslov, what is the first thing that should come to mind that I think they should do that defines them as Breslov? What is the most important yet simplistic thing that defines a Breslov rather than as a Satmar or Nadvorna for example? Other than Rebbes, what? What about Zionism? Are Breslov for, or against? Or do Breslov abstain from the whole argument? Well when I think Breslov, I think Joy. Does Breslov study? Sorry for all the questions.
Answer: Breslov holds stongly that living in Eretz Yisael is benificial for the soul, we are totally against zionism as are all chassidim but this doesn't mean they are not for living in Israel. Breslov=hisbodidus If you hold totally by the Rebbe then you are Breslov. I think you might fit that criteria.Breslov studies shulchan oruch, gemarah mostly Connecting to the Tzaddik in ones life is very important. There are breslovers who don't really connect at all and then there are some that think they do but really don't. You should always make your connections to Tzaddikim real ones. where are you living again. Have you ever been to a chassidish tish? |

Question: I am breslov. Is it important to be close to Rabbi's in this generation?
Answer: Yes, you should connect but if you consider yourself 100% breslov, you have to still maintain that first and formost but we must always search for the Tzaddikim of our generation and to be close to them. This comes direct from Rebbe Nachman. |

Subject:How often can I ask
Question: How often can I ask you my spiritual questions?
Answer: you can't expect to find a person who will answer questions daily or even weekly. The Rebbes answer with a few sentences and you are supposed to evaluate that sentence for a week or more. To talk to someone often and ask many things means that you won't value any of what they say in the end. I have no problems with many questions but you have to keep it at a normal pace. |

Subject:Rebbe or Rabbi or Reb
Question: and what if any is the differnece between a rabbi, Reb and rebbe? is it like english and yidish?
Answer: In practical life, a Rabbi is someone with smicha generally who in some way leads others in Judaism but this doesn't have to be the case. A Rebbe is someone who leads a chassidic group and guides people spiritually. A Reb, well, he can be cool and make neat kiruv sites, lol |
